Saint Celine is a natural sweet red wine blend from South Africa (Western Cape), made by The Saints Wines (Douglas Green group). It’s a non-vintage wine made from about 50% Cinsaut and 50% Ruby Cabernet. It has a low alcohol level (~ 8% ABV), emphasising ripe fruit and sweetness rather than tannic structure or oak ageing. Because of its style and fruit concentration, it’s positioned as a casual, social wine — easy to drink, often enjoyed slightly chilled, especially in warm climates. The sweetness level is quite high, aimed at being dessert-oriented or for meals with spicy, sweet, or barbecue elements.
Tasting Notes:
- Appearance: Radiant ruby red colour; vivid and bright in the glass.
- Aroma: Sweet ripe berries (blackcurrant, raspberry), jammy fruit, with hints of clove spice.
- Palate: Plush and juicy; lots of red berry flavours (raspberry, currant), a pleasant sweetness up front, smooth, soft mouthfeel; flavours linger with sweet fruit.
- Finish: Smooth, velvet-like finish; fruit lingers, with a gentle warmth but not much bitterness or harshness.
- ABV: ~ 8 %
Serving Suggestions:
Serve slightly chilled (around 10-12 °C) to refresh and balance sweetness. Pairs well with BBQ foods (sticky ribs, peri-peri chicken), biltong, lamb or beef, spicy or sweet sauces, desserts like berry tarts or chocolate, or simply enjoyed on its own with friends in relaxed settings.
